Asking for help

is very difficult for some,
I know it is for me.
I made this piece of art in a four-step process
over the month of March.
It goes clockwise.
1.  Received my cancer diagnosis
2. Drowning
3. OK, coming up for air
4. I can do this.

I still go back and forth and around the circle.
I have surgery the first week of May, and
some days I am finding it hard to keep
my head above water.

I am saying the "c" word out loud more and more
and so far, the thing that has helped pull
me up the most is the support of other artists
in my small community.

SO
I have decided to reach out and ask for
cards from my friends. I love to get cards
in the mail.  and I love to get artsy cards.
It will cheer me and give me strength.

SO
If you are so inclined,
I would love to receive some words of support
at this challenging time of my life.

My snailmail address is:
101, 248 Sunterra Ridge Place
Cochrane, Alberta, Canada  T4C 2J6

THERE.
I did it.
I asked.
Thanks, friends,
it's good just to say it out loud.

Cancer.

So I made this for this week's theme at

and then I remembered that I made this a few days ago:

not even two years old and my granddaughter already loves playing dress-up

I don't get to post my scrapbooking layouts here much,

Royalty

DISCLAIMER:     I love the queen.  Really.  I'm a monarchist.
(Except for the amount we spend on her and her minions)
But, when I saw this image in Googleland,
I couldn't help myself.

Not much more to say.

And for the record, I grew up in the 50's and
yes, my mother DID always put on her
lipstick/"face" before she did
ANYTHING.

We've come a long way, Baby!

On another note,

Gecko Galz In Wonderland

HI!
Have you made your sample for
this month's customer challenge yet at
If not, why not?
There are so many great products you can choose from at the

Here are a few examples of what you can create:

Would you like to know how to make one of these?
Pretty much everything I do these days is digital
(well, not dirty dishes or cleaning toilets, or laundry, or...you get the picture)

So for the last one, you need a
photo-editing program of some kind.
I use Photoshop Elements 13.
Now my instructions are going to seem
backwards if you have never
done any digital pieces.
Be patient with me. :-)
Start with one of the Go Ask Alice collage sheets.
Crop the above image from it.
Then get out one of the Chalkboard Sentiments
collage sheets and crop the above image from that.
Apply a bevel style to the sentiment and
place over top of the Alice sheet.
Add text with the word "But".
I used the Medusa Font.
Create a new layer and add the words "she will".
Same font.
Position them where you want them.
Add the arrow
The one I used was from a blog hop quite some time ago,
it's by the Digichick.
Place it where you want it.
Duplicate the arrow a few times and
place them strategically where you want them.
Create a new layer, 4"High x 6" Wide.
Fill it with black.
Place Alice over that, kind of in the corner.
Open the black paper from the
Mad Tea Party paper pak.
Place your image over that paper, kind of in the corner.
Add a white stroke to the top layer and a drop shadow.
Open the blue paper from the same paper pak.
Move your image over top of that,
kind of in the corner.
Do you see how we are just
repeating the process here?
Easy, right?
Add a red stroke to the top layer.
Over another paper from the same paper pak.
Place your image over that,
kind of in the corner.
Add a black stroke over that.
Go back to your Chalkboard Sentiment
image that you cropped out and crop out
just the word "Believe" from that.
Using the magnetic lasso tool,
extract the actual banner and
place over your original piece
(that now has all those layers).
Add a white stroke to the banner.
Create one more new layer,
12"x12"-
this is the LAST ONE!
Fill it with black.
Move the whole shebang to
that last layer.
Add a bevel style to the top layer.
And YOU'RE DONE!!
I know, I know, especially
to the uninitiated, this seems like
a lot of steps.
But they are all just repeats of the first step,
for the most part.
Even a beginner can do this one!
(to tell you the truth,
it took me longer to type the directions out
than it did to make the piece!)

Now you have no excuse to not play along with our
April Customer Challenge, right?
It can be digital or paper, pens and glue.
You decide.
And remember you can get these fun
Alice images and papers from the

We look forward to seeing your creations!
Thanks for coming by!

Alice's Tea Party

It's a new month and a new challenge at
And it's an extra fun theme...
Alice's Tea Party

I made a little sample for the theme,
hopefully, it gets you thinking:

Do you think it's dreamy?  lol
I used a Gecko Galz paper sheet
and one of the Gecko Galz Collage Sheets.

You can find all sorts of "Alice in Wonderland" goodies at

Are you going to create something for
the customer challenge this month?
The only rule is that you must use one

Fairy Garden

Have you created something magical for the
March Customer Challenge:
Fairy Garden ???
I made a few things to help you get creative.

All of these projects use the new
Fairy Magic Collage sheet set and were so easy to make!
for this last one, I simply cropped
an image from the Fairy Magic Collage Sheet.
I masked it using an Amanda Sok photo mask and
placed that over a paper from the
Pixie Dust paper pak.
A border overlay from Created by Jill
completed the piece.
Nothing to it!

The thing about Gecko Galz Collage sheets and papers is that
they are so pretty and full of lovely detail, that
you don't really need to do much to them
to create something quite wonderful.

Remember you only need to use one product from
That can be one of the their free products,
digital paper paks, digital stamp sets, or collage sheets.
I used wordart on my samples from the
In Other Words digital stamp set and
the Scripted Collage Sheet set.
Both had awesome wordart that you can either print out
or just place over your digital product
and change the overlay mode, so that just the words show.
How cool is that?

You have until the end of the month to play along
with us.
We hope to see you there!
Link up at
and celebrate the magic!

Thanks for stopping by and
have a funny day.
(unless of course you have other plans)

March is Fairy Month!

Oriental

better late than never for

credits:  Gecko Galz

on a personal note, a number of years ago,
I used the word "Oriental", a word I grew
up with and was/am totally comfortable with.
My teenage daughter was horrified, and
told me it was racist.
Who knew?
I am still comfortable with it, and no,
I am not a racist. lol
hugs to you.

More Vintage Valentines

So you already know that
there is a new Customer Challenge at
Gecko Galz, right?
Have you made anything yet?
All that is required is that
you use at least one Gecko Galz product and have it
linked up here
before the last day of February.
There is lots of inspiration over on the blog
and you'll want to add to your stash,
I'm sure, of Gecko Galz products by visiting
Here are a few projects I made using Gecko Galz images and papers:
Gecko Galz paper pak:  High Society
Gecko Galz collage sheet set:  Valentine's Wishes
(additional products: wordart by Crafty Button Designs,
and overlay by Amy Wolff)

Gecko Galz paper pak:  Magnolia Blossoms
Gecko Galz collage sheet set: Hugs and Kisses
(additional products: stitching by Akizo Designs)

Gecko Galz paper pak: Retro Cooking
Gecko Galz collage sheet set:  Retro Love Story
digital wordart:  In Other Words
(additional products:Heart by Durin Eberhart

All of these are so easy to make,
either digitally or with paper and scissors.

You simply take your favorite paper from
one of the Gecko Galz paper paks,
layer an image from one of the many
collage sheets, either printing it and cutting it out,
or, if the case of digital,
erasing the back parts that you don't want.
Add some wordart,
maybe a border, and it's done!
Then use it as the front of your
card for your sweetie.

You'll notice that I put the products I used
for each project under the image.
So you can go find them in the shop!

Check out the Etsy Shop for
all of these Gecko Gaz Goodies.

And I will see you soon!
