May Dress-Up

Hah! I may not have gotten much else done this weekend, but I did get my May dress for Dress Up 2010! I like my dress. BUT when I hung them all up in the wardrobe, it appears I have a green fetish. Not that having a green fetish really bothers me, it's just that I didn't know this about myself.

To create my dress, I used a piece of wrapping paper that my mother had way back before I was even born. That's a lONG time ago! I cut out some of the (precious) flowers and crackled them, then added a touch of bling to the centre of each. The bodice is "sugar"-coated and trimmed with flowers and of course there is a ribbon sash and tatted (not by me) straps. At the hem, I edged it with a blanket-stich (which I had to go on-line to find out how to do) and a ribbon rose. And there you have it. I should mention that I did hyper-ventilate as I cut into the paper, but it was worth it. Next month, I think I'll use some blue...or yellow...or

  4. This is OVER THE TOP gorgeous. It must have taken you forever to make. You spared no expense or detail in this dress, from tatted straps to the rose to the blanket stitch hem to the "sugar coated" bodice. Then there is that unbelievable paper you used for the dress itself and the lovely flowers that sparkle even in a photograph. I love, love, love this dress. I think it's the most intensely decorated one I have seen in the five months I've participated. Can you tell how much I LOVE it? Way to go, Electra!

  6. I'd love to do a tutorial Lori:
Get in the truck. Go to the scrapbook store. Buy a rose. Drive back home. Glue it to your dress. The end.

  7. Love this dress, I see these and think - damn, I wish they were real and I was skinny. I would wear them. How wonderful to have that bit of paper that was your mom's and a lovely way to save it.

Blanket stitch, not hard right? It really isn't you just have to get into your rhythm with it (or maybe that's just me sounding crazy - as usual).

Oh, and the word verification giggles are getting to me - my word "bousnes" is that perhaps a Canadian word ala 'for mind my own bousnes'? LOL
