Napoleon de Bonaparte- for Paris in July

Surely we've all heard of this little guy?  (I think I dated him once)  Monsieur B. was the Emporer of the French people from 1769-1821.He fought some MAJOR battles, in fact at the museum the other day, I was fascinated to see a huge diorama with a total of 60,000 soldiers going at it, with him at the centre of it all.  Not someone I would want to upset.
In honour of Paris In July, I did a little research on him.  What I've decided to share with you is the following quotes:
  1. "A man cannot become an atheist merely by wishing it." (This is true, I tried when I was a teenager and failed miserably.)
  2. "A picture is worth a thousand words." (gasp!  Did you know HE said this?)
  3. "A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of coloured ribbon."  (So will a scrapbooker.)
  4. "History is a set of lies agreed upon". (especially if we are talking about my weight.)
  5. "If you want a thing done well, do it yourself"  (He must have known my mother.)
  6. "Four hostile newspapers are more to be feared than a thousand bayonets." ( Mel Gibson should have thought of that before he opened his mouth. ever.)
  7. "Music is the voice that tells us that the human race is greater than it knows."  (must not have heard my daughter practicing her tuba.)
  8. "Women are nothing but machines for producing children."  (good thing he didn't live in THIS century.)
  9. "In politics stupidity is not a handicap." (Maybe he DOES live in this century.)
and finally:
NUMBER 10: "The best cure for a body is a quiet mind."

which is why I shall say good night now.
Good Night.

PS.  I have to add this disclaimer:  1.  I LOVE music and can't imagine life without it.  2.  My daughter is a VERY good tuba player and I love her a lot.

  3. In Politics, stupidity is not a handicap seems to be Chicago's theme: we're dealing with the idiocy of Blagoyovich in trial, former governers are in jail, and I won't even discuss our president in an effort to be respectful.

  5. Who knew that little man had so much to say?? I DO like the image of him you used....very regal. I'm sure he would have approved.

Sad to say anyone I dated who was short, and there weren't many, in fact, maybe only one, were (was) suffering from an acute case of SMS (small man syndrome)...and insufferable on prolonged aquaintance.

  6. Is it true what they say about small guys in relation to the size of...... oh, back to the subject at hand. This is hysterical. Love your responses to the statements, I agree. And I'm with Bellezza, ditto. Oh crap, my word verification is sadidsts. No, I'm not one of those.

  9. WOW. He sure said a lot of good quotes and one really, really, really, bad one. Can't really expect more out of a man now, can we. I have a feeling he would have had my head chopped off if I were around then. I am not so good at following orders. Or directions. Or recipes for that matter.

  11. LOL at your comments!!!

If someone said "A picture is worth a thousand words" today, it would be quotable, but when he said it hardly anyone could read or write so it was a bit of a no brainer!

The artist has made him look like a raving loony, just look at those manic eyes, it's like he's thinking "Oh sh*t I've got live rats in my underpants".
That wild loony look is how I imagined Heathcliff looked come the end of the book, but in his favour he did use both his hands.
