Getting all Felt up.

I WISH. Oh well, some day my prince will come (but he'd better hurry, I'm not getting any younger). I promised myself a couple of months ago that I would participate in the Fabric Postcard Challenge here and this card is my first time. I'm a fabric postcard virgin. (born-again no doubt) The Opus Challenge this week was to use felt in a project. That was what prompted me to get my rear in gear and get this puppy done. You'll notice the background is stippled felt. I would like to mention that while in an earlier life I used to be a (pretty prolific) quilter, I haven't really done anything with fabric for many a moon. So given that fact, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I think the fence and flower fabric was from a Mary Englebret collection. In fact, come to think of it there is a quilt of her fabric hanging at the top of the stairs. Interesting, that had to be almost 30 years ago. See, it pays to be a hoarder, of sorts. If I hadn't saved this fabric, I wouldn't have been able to have done the postcard challenge, nor the Opus Challenge. So sad. I want you to know I'm not one of those hoarders they have on tv: "BURIED ALIVE". Those creep me out. I only hoard craft supplies. There's a BIG difference.
for instance.......ummmm..........OK, no big difference, but there should be because it's not the same. Not the same at all.

I also will use this postcard (heck, it took me a long time@) for this week's blogparty at Everything Etsy here

  1. This is so cool. I haven't made a fabric postcard. Can you really mail them? (yea, like I ever get to the post office... hahahaha) I love the stippling. I didn't know you used to make quilts. Me too. I haven't made one in 10 years. I owe my youngest one. Her sisters both have one, yikes. I better start thinking. Thanks so much for playing with us at Opus Gluei. I really appreciate your jump into fabric on this one.

  2. Geez, you are one multi-talented artist, girlfriend! This is a-MAZ-ing!!! I fear sewing to the point that I have to keep my little-used machine hidden, as I tremble at the very sight of it. But not you-- you put yours to such brilliant use here. Well done! (And, hoarding craft supplies is an honorable hobby, as far as I'm concerned!)

  3. You're a quilter, too? This is fab work, the stippling is awesome, I just started doing a little of that, usually when I make quilts I go for the straight stitch...or take it to a professional...lol. I really want to start doing more art with fabric, now you've inspired me! Hoarding, funny. And I'm just going to say, yes, craft supplies are different than the "other stuff". I'm just sayin' that's my rationalization, ok? p.s. email your addy, gf.

  5. OMG this is too awesome - I was squealing on the phone to Jana and saying - Oh, she quilts like you do and so on because I tend to babble like that. Love this, you are so darn creative! We need you to be a guest host for a challenge. Love the idea of a fabric postcard, I would guess a padded envelope would protect it and keep it nice and tidy. Cool project, love how you embraced your inner poobah! Also, glad you didn't find our challenge title offputting (tee hee hee) - I actually worried a bit about that.

  8. Hi Electra, this is the most fabulous creation. Love the apple tree, the garden, all the little details that I see more of every time I zoom to another spot. You are one very clever lady.

  9. Your April postcard is great! It looks quite three dimesional, whereas mine are quite flat. Did you make the felt for the background? I used to be a feltmaker - but it's too much for my hands now (perhaps if I think up something to take on the rolling process, hmmm...)
Great job!Your postcard sings with colour and promises of spring ahead!
I'm not sending my originals as postcards anywhere - but might turn the prints of them into a book at the end of the year (to sell for charity) - and mount the originals as a reminder for myself - perhaps. Time will tell!

  10. i must say i laughed out loud when i read the part about hoarders on tv. i've seen those shows too. wow. but i do agree there must be a different about hoarding craft supplies. especially if you have them in some kind of recognizable organized fashion, right?

i like how you've put beads or buttons or whatever those are for the 'apples' on the tree. nice!

    thanks for participating!
